I know everyone gives the Fame and Misfortune Episode a lot of Flak and most obviously the Flawless Song in which it had no effect on the Rabid Townsponies.
but answer me this question: What would happen if the Flawless Song DID work?

Good news: a bulk of my frustration aimed at a certain clumsy, poorly thought-out meta episode has been lifted. Once again, writing helps me ease the burden of emotion, and I feel better.
Bad news: this means a fic based entirely on that episode, so my ranting hasn't finished yet. It's simply taking on a new form. This will be either my worst written work ever received, or it will be my magnum opus. Either way, it helped me alleviate some of this anger, so I really don't care.
Immediate thoughts: There's a lot aimed at the fandom here, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Most notably the compaints about Fluttershy learning the same lesson repeatedly. Rarity's issues are also in that vein, as is the comment about Twilight being better before she got wings. Not sure about the part about Twilight staying in Canterlot: never heard that.
Was reading the episode review and some of the comments on EQD, and I have to say, this one really struck home for me. It is on the way to becoming one of my favorite episodes of the series.
I found this episode hilarious. It finally dawned on me that this episode was full on meta when the old mare said "Twilight was better before she got wings!" It was then that I completely and utterly lost it!XD I was laughing so loudly and hard that my BF heard it from the other side of the house! XDD
This is a personal perspective on Fame and Misfortune. I first jotted down the idea for this post after the episode aired in August, but didn’t write it then. Partly because I was chasing an eclipse in the US and had more interesting things to write about. And partly because the episode seemed to animate some people so much that a cool-off period seemed a good idea.
When I first heard that the newest generation of My Little Pony was gathering an adult fan base, I presumed that it would be because the show had some kind of edgy self awareness to it - that it would deliver the sort of sardonic humor that pushed the boundaries of children's television back in the 90's and early 00's.
I gave pony a shot thinking I might end up liking it somewhat ironically.
I'm just gonna get this out of the way... this is not an easy episode to review. Once again, this is yet another episode that is hard to review because of how it's written.
This episode is quite amazing, insightful actually. Whether or not fans agree with what the episode has to say, remains to be seen, but if they were to act in the same way the fans of the journal did here... then there may be more truth to the episode's portrayal of fandoms in general than we realize.
Everyone's at Bronycon and there's new episodes airing. Could this day get any worse? D: The answer is yes, but thankfully, it wasn't the fault of today's episode.
Okay, it was kind of inevitable, but this episode is obviously a case of fandom references... done bad. Awfully. Even offensively for some people. The Opposite and Anathema to the faithfully and respectfully done Ep 100. But well... honestly my issue is less with that and more of how... nonsensical this episode is. I'm not even angry about it, i'm just like... this is a really stupid episode. Not even enraging, just... stupid.
